The word stlanlaas, translated as ‘good with their hands’ is the closest equivalent in the Haida language to the honoured calling of Artist. The renowned Haida artist and Stastas Eagle Chief, Charles Edenshaw, when asked what he would like to leave his heirs replied, “my hands”.
